UT Health San Antonio is hosting two sessions, July 12 and Aug. 2, to train health care professionals in how to use buprenorphine to treat patients with opioid use disorder. Each session will fulfill the 4 hour in-person training requirements needed to apply for a DEA X-waiver.
The free training is targeting local physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, including residents and interested medical students. Health care professionals will receive 4.25 CMEs for attending.
The training is part of the Get Waivered TX initiative led by Jennifer Sharpe Potter, Ph.D., M.P.H., from UT Health San Antonio. She received $1 million for Get Waivered TX from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through a contract with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Buprenorphine is an opioid-derived medication used to treat opioid use disorder. Prescribing buprenorphine requires special training and a DEA X-waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in an outpatient setting.
