KENS 5: San Antonio Metro Health confirms coronavirus test kits have arrived

Dr. Fred Campbell, General and Hospital Medicine, was interviewed during a clinic at the Alamo Area Resource Center about the new test kits, designed by the CDC and World Health Organization, to detect this specific strain of coronavirus, COVID-19.

San Antonio Metro Health confirmed they have some of the diagnostic kits in hand, but it could take a few weeks to validate the kits before they are used.

Dr. Campbell explained that if people are concerned they have a virus, it is important to be evaluated. He said that it’s much more common for people to get the flu or other flulike viruses. He noted that handwashing is still the most important means of reducing transmission of infection during this season.
