Message from the president: An invitation to join a silent vigil

Dear faculty, staff, students, residents and trainees:

Across the country, demonstrations continue regarding the horrific death of George Floyd and others who have died unjustly. I invite members of the UT Health San Antonio community at all locations to step outside, as you are able, at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, and join together in a nine-minute silent and peaceful vigil of self-reflection in support of equality for all. We stand together with those fighting against social injustices and with all members of the UT Health San Antonio community who are grieving and angry at their own losses and experiences.

I also invite you to participate in the “Collective Healing Virtual Roundtable”  scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. This roundtable, organized by the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, Long School of Medicine, is designed to provide our students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff a way to process their feelings and experiences in relation to recent events. Please click on “Collective Healing Virtual Roundtable” to join.

Please join me in reaffirming our shared humanity and our resolve to insist on social justice for all. And, please consider using the following hashtags when posting to social media: #BeTheChange #UTHealthSAUnity

With great respect and appreciation,

William L. Henrich, MD, MACP

President and Professor of Medicine
