New VP for human resources named

Amy Tawney, M.B.A., SPHR, a human resources professional with more than 25 years of experience in a variety of industries, has been named vice president and chief human resources officer for UT Health San Antonio. She will begin work here on March 19.

The announcement was made Feb. 20 by Michael E. Black, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer.

“She is skilled in developing successful staffing strategies, improving organizational retention rates and recruitment processes while partnering with leaders across the organizations to identify the kind of leaders needed in specific roles,” Black said.

Tawney said she was honored to join UT Health San Antonio.

“This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a well regarded and recognized organization focused on making a substantial difference in people’s lives,” she said. “I look forward to working with each of the deans, vice presidents and other university leaders and employees across UT Health.”

Most recently, Tawney served as corporate human resources vice president, organization and talent effectiveness for Ascension, the largest nonprofit health system in the nation.

Prior to joining Ascension Health, she was corporate director, human resources strategic services for Baylor, Scott & White Health, the largest nonprofit health organization in Texas.

Tawney earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Texas A&M University and a master of business administration degree from the University of Dallas.

She has volunteered extensively, including serving on the board of directors and as president of the Aggie Women Network for Texas A&M.
