Surgery faculty member elected a director of the American Board of Surgery

Daniel Dent, M.D.

Daniel L. Dent, M.D., professor/clinical of surgery and residency program director, was elected to be a director of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is the national certifying organization for general surgeons and related specialists.

The mission of the ABS is to serve the public and the specialty of surgery by providing leadership in surgical education and practice, by promoting excellence through rigorous evaluation and examination, and by promoting the highest standards for professionalism, lifelong learning, and the continuous certification of surgeons in practice. Over 30,000 surgeons are currently certified by the ABS.

Dr. Dent is the past president of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and the secretary of the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons.
