UT Health data not compromised in Equifax breach

We value the overall safety of our employees, including the safety of your personal information. As you may have heard, last week there was an Equifax breach involving consumer information impacting approximately 143 million U.S. consumers.

There are many different divisions of Equifax, and UT Health San Antonio has an existing contract with Equifax Workforce Solutions for an Affordable Care Act (ACA) management platform, ACA Tax Form Services, and employment and income verification services. We utilize these services for the purpose of tracking health care coverage, providing annual Form 1095-Cs and verifying income and/or employment. As a result, Equifax houses information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses for most of our employees. To be as transparent as possible, we want to let you know of our business relationship with Equifax.

We received confirmation from Equifax that there is no evidence that our contracts or data were impacted by this breach. This particular data set (involving business relationships) was not impacted by the breach.

If you have questions about whether or not you as a consumer have data with Equifax that has been breached, the following resources below are available.  Again, please note that UT Health San Antonio data was not compromised in this breach.

  • A dedicated website https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com was built by Equifax to help consumers determine if their personal information has been potentially impacted and to sign up for credit file monitoring and identity theft protection, which is being offered complimentary for one year to all U.S. consumers.
  • A dedicated call center for Equifax at 866-447-7559 will assist consumers with questions. The call center is open every day (including weekends) from 6 a.m. to midnight CST.

Equifax confirmed they have successfully stopped the intrusion and engaged a leading independent cybersecurity firm that has been conducting a comprehensive forensic review to determine the scope of the intrusion. Equifax is working with law enforcement and they are also in the process of contacting U.S. state and federal regulators.

Thank you and please do not hesitate to take advantage of the offerings by Equifax if you are concerned about the safety of your personal information.
