19th annual Vulcan Materials Funshoot benefits cancer research, patient care
WHAT:
More than 350 shooters will compete at the Vulcan Materials Funshoot, an annual sporting-clay competition benefiting the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at the UT Health Science Center. Proceeds support the CTRC’s mission to conquer cancer through research, prevention and treatment.
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. The shooting competition is from 9 to 11 a.m., and competitors will be available for interviews after it concludes.

National Shooting Complex, 5931 Roft Road, San Antonio, 78253 (off of Culebra Road and outside Loop 1604)
WHO:
CTRC Director Ian Thompson, Jr., M.D., will compete in the event organized by Vulcan Materials employees. Jeff Lott, vice president for Vulcan Materials, and Oscar Benavidez, Vulcan Materials district manager – sales, also will be on hand.

Spanish-language interviews are available.
Last year’s event raised more than $159,000 for the CTRC. Since 1994, the annual competition has netted almost $1.8 million. Vulcan employees volunteer their time to organize and work the fundraiser. The company created the competition as a means to raise money for cancer research and patient care to honor employees, family members and friends who have battled cancer.
