350 to compete in sporting-clay competition

21th Annual Vulcan Materials Funshoot benefits cancer research, patient care

WHAT:

Approximately 350 shooters will compete at the Vulcan Materials Funshoot, an annual sporting-clay competition benefiting the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Proceeds support the CTRC’s mission to conquer cancer through research, prevention and treatment.

WHEN:

Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014
8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Shooting competition
Best time for interviews is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE:

National Shooting Complex, 5931 Roft Road, San Antonio, 78253 (Off of Culebra Road and outside Loop 1604)

WHO:

CTRC Director Ian Thompson, Jr., M.D.; Jeff Lott, vice president for Vulcan Materials, and Alma Martinez, Vulcan Materials employee and funshoot volunteer, will be available for interviews. Dr. Thompson and Martinez are available for interviews in Spanish.

NOTES:

In the past 20 years, the event has raised more than $2 million for the CTRC. Last year’s funshoot netted $170,000. Vulcan employees volunteer their time to organize and work the fundraiser. The company created the shooting competition as a means to raise money for cancer research and patient care to honor employees, family members and friends who have battled cancer.
