UT Health San Antonio faculty shared their expertise of ultrasound technology and provided hands-on training to clinicians during the 10th annual Point-of-care Ultrasound Workshop.

More than 100 clinicians, from more than 33 states, were in downtown San Antonio to attend.

During the workshop, attendees learned techniques to use portable ultrasound to perform focused diagnostic exams or procedures at the bedside. With the guidance of expert faculty, the clinicians practiced on live models, simulation models, and even volunteer patients.

Attendees learned how to interpret normal and abnormal ultrasound images of the heart, lungs, abdomen and lower extremity veins.

Course director Nilam Soni, M.D., M.S., said practical skills are taught during the workshop that clinicians can immediately apply in their practices which is why the workshop has continued to sell out year after year.

“The hands-on sessions, in small groups, allow for one-on-one teaching from truly some of the best faculty in the country,” he said.

Ten Point-of-care Ultrasound workshops have been offered since 2012.
