CTRC leader honored by Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Francis Giles, M.D., of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, was awarded the 2008 Chairman’s Citation for Excellence in Community Service by the South Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Physician and writer Dr. Abraham Verghese to occupy distinguished chair in medicine

Abraham Verghese, M.D., D.Sc. (Hon.), a well-known author and internist who leads the effort to integrate the humanities into the teaching of medical students, will be the first faculty member to occupy the Dr. Joaquin G. Cigarroa, Jr. Distinguished Chair in Medicine at the Health Science Center.

Laura Bush presents nation’s highest library award to UT Health Science Center for its Rio Grande Valley outreach

Mrs. Laura Bush presented the Health Science Center’s Regional Academic Health Center Medical Library with the 2004 National Award for Museum and Library Service in a March 14 ceremony in Washington, D.C. The awards are conferred annually by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to institutions that have demonstrated a perpetual, long-term commitment to public service through innovative programs and community partnerships.
