The Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics and the Briscoe Library have chosen Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor’s Reflections on Race and Medicine, by Damon Tweedy, M.D., J.D., as the basis for a Community Discussions in Social Justice Project.
Dr. Tweedy will deliver the Frank Bryant Jr., M.D., Memorial Lecture in Medical Ethics on April 19. A reception and book signing will be held after the lecture.
Dr. Tweedy is a graduate of Duke Medical School and Yale Law School. He is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and staff physician at the Durham VA Medical Center. He has published articles about race and medicine in numerous journals. His New York Times bestseller, Black Man in a White Coat, explores health disparities along racial lines.
The Briscoe Library will support book discussion groups and community dialogue leading up to the author’s visit to campus. More information.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged.
