Cancer Moonshot Summit to be held June 29 at CTRC

The Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio will host the Cancer Moonshot Summit from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29. Vice President Joe Biden last month called for summits to take place across the country on June 29, convening individuals and organizations under the national charge to double the rate of progress toward a cure.

The event is free to the public, including complimentary parking at the CTRC. Individuals and organizations are urged to register by Tuesday, June 21, at the CTRC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1129085653801978/. Alternatively, the public may RSVP at (210) 450-1018 or durhamk@uthscsa.edu.

A video of Vice President Biden’s remarks from Washington, D.C., will be shown at 10 a.m.

The summits will bring together researchers, oncologists, care providers, philanthropists, data and technical experts, advocates, patients and survivors. Audience members will discuss how cancer affects them, share input for the national Moonshot Initiative, generate ideas about how individuals and organizations can better engage in the national effort, and create ideas for new collaborations and actions.

Summit hosts will help open the dialogue among attendees to encourage collaborations for accelerating the pace of progress in cancer research, prevention, treatment and care. The CTRC and its director, Ian M. Thompson Jr., M.D., professor of urology in the School of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center, are the facilitating hosts in San Antonio.

The CTRC, a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, is part of UT Medicine San Antonio, the clinical practice of the School of Medicine.
