Minerva Garcia, D.D.S., a Zapata native, will be named the holder of the first distinguished university chair of the Laredo Campus Extension of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. UT Health Science Center President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., will make the announcement during a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. today at the Laredo Campus Extension, 1937 Bustamante Street.

The Institute for Drug Development, a division of The Cancer Therapy & Research Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, announced the results of a new phase I clinical study on NPI-2358, a targeted anti-cancer agent designed to rapidly disrupt blood flow to the tumor mass, causing tumor death.
