Celebrate Earth Week

Celebrate Earth Week from April 19-23! There will be virtual exhibitions throughout the week on Zoom from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. Prizes will be given away! Join the celebration on Zoom here (passcode: Earthday).

Monday, April 19: 

12:00 p.m.: Members of the UT Health San Antonio Green Initiatives committee will discuss the efforts on campus to promote “green” practices. Please join us for a look at the future of sustainability at UT Health San Antonio and a chance to win a swag bag from Whole Earth Provision Company!

12:30 p.m.: Learn how to “Be Watershed Wise” with this presentation from the San Antonio River Authority! We will discuss how pollution on the land ends up in the water and what we can do to help. Participants will be inspired to take action in their community after learning about an innovative citizen science app. A San Antonio River Authority swag bag will be given away to one lucky participant.

Tuesday, April 20:  

12:00 p.m.: San Antonio’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) has more than 80 mitigation and adaptation strategies that focus on key areas such as carbon-free energy, reducing transportation energy consumption and increasing biodiversity and adaptation. Join this session with the City of San Antonio Office of Sustainability to learn more about CAAP strategies.

12:30 p.m.: CPS Energy Outreach Specialists will dive into energy-saving tips, review weatherization and provide utility assistance resources. Get a glance at the Casa Verde Weatherization Program and rebates available as the warmer months approach. CPS Energy will give away one of its Energy Conservation Kits to a participant.

Wednesday, April 21: 

12:00 p.m.: Learn about VIA Metropolitan Transit and its public transportation offerings. VIA is always looking for new ways to provide a safer, cleaner and ‘greener’ ride around our great city.

12:30 p.m.: The San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department frequently hears from customers that recycling is very confusing to them. What items are accepted, cannot be accepted and where should they go instead? The simplest way to get those answers is the department’s free mobile app, Recycle Coach. Learn more about the app during this session.

Thursday, April 22: 

12:00 p.m.: Exposure to nature has endless health benefits for you and the planet. A Park Ranger will discuss the National Park Service Healthy Parks Healthy People Initiative and explain how to access nature at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

12:30 p.m.: Learn about MedlinePlus Environmental Health resources from the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Also, learn about a featured work in the collection of the UT Health San Antonio P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library that is one of the earliest books on the pharmacological use of plants published in the U.S.

Friday, April 23:

12:00 p.m.: Do you think you’re as “busy as a bee?” Lynn Cox, Bexar County Master Gardeners President, and twice winner of the Texas Master Gardener of the Year, will share the busy nature of this insect. You will learn what they are up to, why you want them and how to attract these wonderful pollinators to your garden. One lucky participant will win a trio of plants.
