Commencements to mark new beginnings for UT Health graduates

UT Health San Antonio Commencement 2021

About 780 students are candidates for graduation from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio during upcoming commencement ceremonies for the institution’s five schools.

Speakers will include Kenneth Shine, M.D., professor of medicine at the Dell Medical School of the University of Texas and special advisor on the new medical school at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). He is a former executive vice chancellor for health affairs for The University of Texas System. Dr. Shine will speak to School of Medicine graduates.

The complete graduation schedule and other speakers are listed below.

Deaf Education, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 13, UT Health San Antonio, Hurd Auditorium. There are 11 candidates for the master of science in deaf education and hearing science.

Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, 4 p.m., Friday, May 19, Holly Auditorium, Long campus. About 155 degrees will be conferred. The speaker is Ann Stevens, founding president of BioMed SA.

School of Dentistry, 9 a.m., Saturday, May 20, UTSA Convocation Center. There are 171 candidates for dental degrees. Commencement speaker will be Karl Haden, Ph.D., president of the Academy of Academic Leadership in Atlanta.

School of Nursing, 2 p.m., Saturday, May 20, UTSA Convocation Center. There are 102 degree candidates. Commencement speaker will be Tommye Austin, M.B.A., Ph.D., RN, chief nursing executive for the Baptist Health System.

School of Health Professions, 9 a.m., Sunday, May 21, UTSA Convocation Center. There are 134 candidates for degrees. The speaker will be Gregory Frazier, Ph.D., FASAHP, dean of the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama.

Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, 2 p.m., Sunday, May 21, UTSA Convocation Center. There are 203 M.D. candidates. The speaker is Dr. Ken Shine.
