Compliance with new Title IX federal regulations

The Department of Education (DOE) has released new Title IX federal regulations that will be effective August 14, 2020, which will impact all colleges and universities.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex (gender) in any aspect of a federally funded education program or activity. As a recipient of federal funds, UT Heath San Antonio complies with Title IX and continues its commitment to maintaining a learning and working environment that is free from illegal discrimination and harassment.

To comply with the new Title IX regulations, the UT Health San Antonio Sexual Misconduct Policy (HOP 4.2.2) has recently been updated and approved by the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

Major policy changes include:

  • Adoption and publication of Title IX processes and procedures.
  • Definition of sexual harassment for Title IX purposes.
  • Mandatory and discretionary formal complaint processes and procedures.
  • Live hearings and appeals process.

The institutional Title IX and Sexual Misconduct training will be updated to include these changes. Updated information regarding training will be shared at a later date.

UT Health San Antonio is also required to provide a Notice of Non-Discrimination to students, employees, contractors and applicants for admission and employment.

The notice includes:

  • The Title IX Coordinator’s name and contact information.
  • Information on UT Health San Antonio’s grievance process and procedures.
  • How to report or file a complaint of sex (gender) discrimination, sexual misconduct and sexual harassment, including domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.

These new Title IX regulations lay out the process, procedures and resources for those who may be involved in a Title IX Process. Please visit the Title IX office website or contact the Title IX office using any of the contacts below.
