Deborah L. Conway, M.D., has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, effective immediately.
Dr. Conway graduated from Texas A&M University and received her M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School—Houston. She completed her OB-Gyn residency and her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.
Since 2012, Dr. Conway has helped lead the School of Medicine through a successful renewal of the medical student curriculum and currently holds the position of the associate dean for curriculum in the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education.
Dr. Conway is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology and is board certified in obstetrics & gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine. Her clinical and research area of focus is diabetes in pregnancy.
Her husband, Bruce E. Conway, M.D., is a Health Science Center graduate and general surgeon in private practice. They are the parents of two daughters: Cate, a freshman, and Erin, a fifth grader.
Robert Schenken, M.D., who has led the department for 15 years, will continue as professor and maintain a role in the department.
