With final exams looming, students took a much-needed break from their rigorous studies to enjoy De-stress Fest, a biannual event hosted by Student Life to promote relaxation and well-being across campus.
Held in the Lecture Hall Commons, the event offered everything from massage chairs and calming art stations to wellness resources and the ever-popular therapy dogs. Students filtered in and out throughout the afternoon, enjoying the vibrant mix of activities designed to soothe the stress of finals season.
Among the people enjoying the festivities was a group of first-year dental students who felt the event arrived at just the right time.
“We have so many tests going on right now — but just being here, made me feel way better, I love everything” shared Lilian Huynh, a dental student.

Therapy dogs were, unsurprisingly, a crowd favorite.
“The dogs are definitely my favorite part of the event; they’re just so calming,” said Veena Vinod, a dental student. The certified canines were brought in by Paws for Service, a nonprofit that trains, certifies, and places dog therapy teams throughout the greater San Antonio area. They are a proud staple of De-stress Fest.
Events like De-stress Fest offer a welcome reprieve for students from their demanding schedules.
“The dental school is definitely more intense than undergrad — the pace is faster, the material is deeper — but it’s all so worth it,” said Natalia Guerrero, a dental student. “We’re learning real, hands-on skills now, like waxing and cutting practice teeth. It’s exciting.”
With the help of furry friends and wellness activities, students walked away from the event just a bit lighter — and a bit more prepared to face the finals ahead.
The next De-stress Fest will return in the fall, continuing a tradition of putting students’ well-being front and center when they need it most.
