Dr. Hicks named dental accreditation commissioner

Jeffery Hicks, D.D.S., professor of comprehensive dentistry, has been appointed as the commissioner for postdoctoral general dentistry on the Commission on Dental Accreditation for years 2017-2021.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation serves the public and profession by developing and implementing accreditation standards that promote and monitor the continuous quality and improvement of dental education programs.

The commission works to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards in the nation’s dental schools and programs. The CODA employs a collaborative peer review accreditation process to evaluate the quality of over 1,450 dental and dental-related education programs nationwide, including dental, advanced general dentistry, advanced specialty, clinical fellowship and allied dental programs.

As commissioner, Dr. Hicks will help conduct the annual business of the commission and will chair the CODA Postdoctoral General Dentistry Review Committee. The duties of this committee include the review of accreditation reports and recommendation for accreditation actions for postdoctoral programs in numerous areas of dentistry.
