Dr. Ruben Mesa elected to board of the Association of American Cancer Institutes

Dr. Ruben Mesa

Ruben Mesa, MD, FACP, executive director of the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, has been elected to the board of the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI).

He joins three other new board members to support the organization’s mission of accelerating progress against cancer by enhancing the impact of North America’s leading academic cancer centers. The Mays Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Central and South Texas.

Dr. Mesa is the Mays Family Foundation Distinguished University Presidential Chair. He previously served as the chair of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Arizona, and deputy director of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center.

His research focuses on the development of new therapies for myeloproliferative neoplasms.
