Exercise equipment added to jogging path

This elliptical is one of four exercise stations along UT Health San Antonio's walking/jogging trail.

Four outdoor fitness stations have recently been installed along the mile-long jogging/walking path on the perimeter of UT Health San Antonio’s Long campus.

The fitness equipment includes an ab crunch/leg lift and chest/back press, a squat press, an elliptical and a cardio stepper.

In 2009, President William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP, announced the construction of the jogging/walking trail to encourage fitness and exercise for faculty, staff and students. The exercise equipment is seen as the completion of his vision.

The project was spearheaded by the School of Nursing, which leads a variety wellness initiatives at UT Health San Antonio.

“Exercising in nature has benefits that go above and beyond the benefits gained by exercising indoors,” said Heather Wesling of the School of Nursing. “Research has shown that exercising improves mental well-being and self-esteem, and that it can even help with depression.”
