Faculty member appointed deputy surgeon general

Daniel Dire, M.D.

Daniel J. Dire, M.D., clinical professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been appointed as the Army Deputy Surgeon General for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs.

Dr. Dire, a major general in the Army Reserve, is the senior ranking physician in the Army Reserve and has just completed a 3-year command of the Army’s largest deployable medical headquarters, the 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) at Fort Douglas, Utah.

He has completed 38 years of military service and has commanded Army medical units and task forces on deployments to both Bosnia and Kosovo.

Dr. Dire is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
