Eduardo Marques Zilli, MD, assistant professor and neurologist with the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio, was recently selected to take part in the 2021 America Academy of Neurology Diversity Leadership Program.
The American Academy of Neurology is the country’s largest professional organization in the field of neurology and an important forum for national leadership development, said Sudha Seshadri, MD, professor of neurology and founding director of the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
“I nominated Dr. Marques Zilli for his clinical, scientific and leadership skills and his strong commitment to finding the best ways to deliver dementia care to the underserved communities of South Texas,” Dr. Seshadri said. “I am proud and delighted that the academy has selected him to be one of the few outstanding early career neurologists chosen to help bring diverse viewpoints to neurology leadership and advocacy.”
The program provides participants with critical leadership skills through training, personalized coaching and mentoring for underrepresented neurology groups.
“I think it will be fantastic to have this opportunity to develop into a better leader,” Dr. Zilli said. “It’s good for the institution, good for the American Academy of Neurology, and for myself, so everybody wins.”
Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. Zilli attended medical school at Universidade De Brasília. He then completed his residency at the University of Iowa and continued with his fellowship at the University of Florida. He came to the Biggs Institute two years ago.
