Getting into the spirit!

 

This year’s Spirit Week — Monday, Oct. 21 to Friday, Oct. 25 — provided a host of fun activities to ignite hope and spark discovery!

Taking a break from the anesthesia clinic, this group was all smiles when picking up their Spirit Week T-shirts Tuesday.

To kick off the week’s festivities, thousands of free Spirit Week T-shirts were distributed Monday and Tuesday on both campuses. The popular giveaway drew many, whether they drove by or took a nice stroll.

There were also many opportunities to win a variety of prizes — including Spurs basketball tickets, cool swag and other promotional items.

Showing Spirit Week pride

Raymundo Rivera, MBA, MS, executive director of Engineering and Construction Management and chief electrical engineer, Facilities Management Department, wore his t-shirt with pride while visiting Japan with his family.

Spirit and pride abounded throughout the week as university members wore their Spirit Week T-shirts out and about and shared their photos on Facebook or Instagram by tagging @UTHealthSA and #Everywhereittakes.

Alter egos

On Wednesday, the university community was treated to inspirational employee stories featuring their colleagues’ alter egos. Among the fascinating alter egos were an inspiring profiles on an organ donor and the “Texas Highway Man,” a local legend in all things transportation. President’s Forum

During the President’s Forum on Thursday, Oct. 24, Acting UT Health San Antonio President Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, provided updates about important innovations and discoveries at the university’s six schools and announced the launch of an innovation hub to ignite ideas.

On Thursday, the campus community was invited to the President’s Forum. During the well-attended event, UT Health San Antonio Acting President Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, provided updates about the innovations taking place at each of the university’s six schools and the continued growth of the university — including the integration progress with The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Hromas also announced the launch of an Innovation Hub where the university community can submit innovation ideas by Jan. 1. If an idea is implemented, the individual who submitted it will receive $500 and another $1,000 if the idea works. Awards will be announced Jan. 31. On Friday, National “I Care About You” Day, students and staff had a chance to recognize their coworkers and fellow students by taking photos at any of three photo stations located on the university’s campuses and share them on social media.
