Schenken elected to serve on board to certify future physicians

The Health Science Center’s Robert S. Schenken, M.D., professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, has been elected to serve on the board of directors of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), the national organization that certifies physicians in obstetrics and gynecology, and related subspecialties.


Estrogen inhibitors likely to serve as cervical cancer treatments, study suggests

Landmark evidence suggests estrogen may be one of the causative agents in cervical cancer, according to a research team at the Health Science Center. The results, published in the Dec. 1 issue of Cancer Research, raise the possibility that estrogen inhibitors could be used as a potential line of therapy to treat cervical cancer.



Ob/gyn researcher Tekmal appointed to Pauerstein Professorship

Rajeshwar Rao Tekmal, Ph.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of reproductive research at the Health Science Center, has been named to the Carl J. Pauerstein Professorship in Reproductive Research, the university announced March 15.


Schenken becomes president of American Society for Reproductive Medicine

Schenken, M.D., professor and chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, is now the president of the nation’s largest society of physicians who specialize in fertility, sterility, menopause and other issues that surround reproduction.
