COPD genetic research study needs 1,000 volunteers

The UT Health Science Center San Antonio and the South Texas Veterans Health Care System seek to enroll 1,000 current and former smokers in a genetic epidemiology study of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the fourth-leading cause of death in the U.S.

Abraham Verghese, M.D., D.Sc. (Hon), the Marvin Forland Distinguished Professor of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and director of the university’s Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics, recently was appointed to the board of directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
