Healthy aging event set at UT Health’s Laredo campus

The Laredo community is invited to a free special event, “Improve Health and Delay Aging,” featuring healthy tips, hands-on demonstrations and guest speaker Dr. Fernando Sanchez, a Laredo neurologist.

The free event will be held 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 4, at the Laredo Regional Campus of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1937 E. Bustamante St. The UT Health Science Center is now called UT Health San Antonio.

The half-day conference is part of the annual “Stay Healthier Longer” series presented each spring by the Laredo Regional Campus.

Healthy tips and hands-on demonstrations will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by Dr. Sanchez’s presentation, “Healthy Aging: Transform Yourself as You Age with New Technology.” Dr. Sanchez has been in private practice in Laredo since 1997 with a focus on general neurology, clinical neurophysiology and neurosonology. At Laredo Medical Center, he practices emergency and critical care neurology.

Dr. Sanchez graduated with a both a B.M. degree in public health and a medical degree from Universidad de Guadalajara. He completed residencies in internal medicine from New York Medical College at Cabrini Medical Center and neurology from New York University Medical Center in New York, where he was chief resident of neurology. He also completed a fellowship in electromyography, clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular diseases from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Gladys Keene is regional dean of the Regional Campus in Laredo.
