Healthy living tips – with lunch – to cut breast cancer risk

SAN ANTONIO (February 24, 2011) – Healthy living in general is good preventive medicine, but it is possible to fine-tune that philosophy to lower one’s risk for developing breast cancer, which will affect one in eight women.

An educational workshop open to all women in the community who want to reduce their breast cancer risk is set for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at the UT Health Science Center.

Called Women Interested in Seeking Education (W.I.S.E.) about Breast Cancer Prevention, the Saturday morning workshop will feature a dietician, kinesiologist, social worker, and medical oncologist. The health professionals will share cutting-edge research on food, exercise and reproductive choices that can reduce the risk of breast cancer and prolong life. Participants will also get a healthy cooking demonstration, followed by lunch.

W.I.S.E., which is free, runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Sponsored by the CTRC’s Wellness Center, it will be held at the CTRC, on the 4th floor of the Grossman Building in the Mabee Conference Room. The address is 7979 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78229. Call (210) 450-5574 for more information and to register.
