Over 200 medical providers, including doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, social workers and nursing students, attended the 34th Annual Update in Medicine Conference sponsored by the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and the Webb-Zapata-Jim Hogg County Medical Society on Oct. 26-27 at the UT Health San Antonio Regional Campus Laredo.

The medical conference, offered each year in October, is a two-day educational event that hosts research and medical experts from various specialties across the state. The experts present the latest findings on medical conditions that impact the region and provide current information in regards to diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures.

Julie Bazan, AHEC executive director, said the program included presentations on stroke, diabetes, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, mental health, food allergies, migraine, respiratory conditions and others.

“It is an opportunity for the medical community to gather, network and obtain current information to help improve their delivery of health care,” Bazan added. “We recognize Doctors Hospital of Laredo, Laredo Medical Center, Specialty/Rehabilitation Hospital and DHR Health for their support of our educational initiative; they believe in our community and they make this conference a successful program for everyone.”
