Hundreds of UT Health San Antonio employees were honored with service awards during a festive celebration Feb. 22 in Holly Auditorium foyer.

About 700 employees marked significant anniversaries and about 250 were on hand for the Feb. 22 event.

President William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP, and other senior administrators addressed words of appreciation and thanks to employees marking service anniversaries of five years up to 45 years.

“What makes us different, what makes us stand out,” said Dr. Henrich, “is that all of us are serving people, no matter what role we have. I’m proud of you for putting so much into that effort.”

Andrea Marks, M.B.A., vice president and chief financial officer, thanked those employees celebrating five, 10 and 15 years of service; Eileen Breslin, Ph.D., dean of the School of Nursing, congratulated those marking 20 and 25 years; and Michael E. Black, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer, offered thanks to those celebrating 30 and 35 years of service to the university.

Those marking 40 years included Kris Doyle, Keith Krolick, Ph.D., William Dodge, D.D.S., and Roger Weed, D.D.S. (Drs. Dodge and Weed were unable to attend.)

Dr. Henrich noted that Doyle, senior director of marketing for Institutional Advancement, is an accomplished artist and designer who has contributed to hundreds of programs, event and fundraising efforts. “She’s an effervescent, vivacious person who makes life wonderful for all of us,” he added.

Dr. Henrich praised Dr. Krolick for both his research accomplishments in the area of autoimmune disease and then in teaching, now his main passion. He noted that Dr. Krolick teaches in all five schools of the university and is a distinguished teacher.

The longest serving honorees, marking 45 years, were Robert Huff, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and Linda Johnson, Ph.D., professor of cell systems and anatomy. (Dr. Huff was not in attendance.)

Dr. Henrich said that Dr. Johnson, a professor of cell systems and anatomy, has been associated with UT Health San Antonio for 45 years as a member of the faculty, the staff and as a student. She received her Ph.D. from the university in 1978. She has won numerous teaching awards, including being named a Piper Professor, a Regents’ Outstanding Teacher Award, and is a founding member of the UT System’s Shine Academy.
