WHAT: Graduates from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry and School of Health Professions will walk the stage this Saturday. More than 1,100 students – 884 in May and 230 in the summer – are candidates for graduation at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio), according to the university’s Office of Institutional Research.
Parents, family, friends, and UT Health San Antonio faculty and staff will be in attendance, including this year’s commencement speaker John M. Zerwas, MD, executive vice chancellor for health affairs with the University of Texas System.

John M. Zerwas, MD, executive vice chancellor for health affairs with the University of Texas System. Zerwas served Texas House District 28 (Northwestern Fort Bend County) for seven legislative terms in the Texas House of Representatives, and as a physician for more than 30 years. In 1996, he cofounded a Houston area group practice, which became part of the US Anesthesia Partners in 2012. Zerwas completed his residency in anesthesiology at UT Health San Antonio.
NOTES: Two students from the MD/MS in AI dual degree program will be conferred by UT Health San Antonio. They are the first graduates of the nation’s first dual degree program in medicine and AI which officially launched in fall 2023. The program combines a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from UT Health San Antonio and a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
Some of the May and summer graduates include:
- 209 candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- 208 candidates for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree
- 107 candidates for the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree
- 47 candidates for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree
- 47 candidates for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree
- 46 candidates for the Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology degree
- 42 candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in several disciplines
- 39 candidates for the Master of Science in Respiratory Care degree
- 19 candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene
