IIMS 2018 Community Engagement Symposium

The Institute for the Integration of Medicine and Science will hold its 2018 Community Engagement Symposium on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Witte Museum.

The symposium is intended for community members, students, health care practitioners and investigators interested in community-campus research partnerships.

Translational science describes how research discoveries are translated from basic science, to clinical practice, to public health benefit. The free symposium addresses methods for developing and enhancing community-campus partnerships for the translation of research. The goal is to share examples and perceptions of how community-campus partnerships can be used as a strategy to translate research for health equity. Together, patients, families, communities and researchers will learn how they can work together to design, implement and share quality research that has far-reaching effects on important community health outcomes.

This year’s plenary speakers are Susan Goold, M.D., from the University of Michigan, and Zachary Row, executive director of Friends of Parkside.
