Dr. Jason Bowling, an associate professor of infectious diseases at UT Health San Antonio, tells KSAT’s Jessie Degollado that the U.S. has “no need to panic right now” amid international efforts to contain the coronavirus, a respiratory disease, that began in China.
There is one coronavirus patient in the U.S. who is recovering in Seattle. There have been nearly 20 deaths reported in China and hundreds of cases have been confirmed there.
Bowling said, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “is putting this at a low immediate risk.”
He said traveling to China is the key risk factor, especially in Wuhan, where the previously unknown strain of the coronavirus was detected.
