Legislation Update: Senate Bill 17

Last October, we shared the legislative directive and initial strategy UT Health San Antonio would employ to ensure compliance with Senate Bill 17. Since that time, we have executed this strategy and evaluated a wide range of programs, activities and initiatives across our institution. Instrumental in this effort has been the meaningful engagement of a Campus Stakeholder Group and individuals from each school and the multiple departments they represent. Due to their efforts, we have certified compliance of SB17 by the January 1, 2024 deadline.

Thank you to all who have been involved for their input to ensure that necessary materials have been identified and evaluated in a timely manner.  With the assistance of these individuals, our effort has been comprehensive and successful while upholding our fundamental principles and core values, anchored in support of academic freedom. Our ongoing focus is on our students, faculty and staff, and in providing the necessary support to maximize success to support the best possible outcomes for all members of our community.

As a reminder, if you encounter any programs, activities, initiatives, etc. that you believe should be reviewed, please submit directly to the Office of Legal Affairs through an intake form. You can learn more about the efforts around SB17 at UT Health San Antonio by visiting our intranet site, MyUTHealth.
