Luci K. Leykum, M.D., professor of medicine, has been named chief of the newly created Division of General and Hospital Medicine. She will be stepping down from her position as associate dean for clinical affairs, in which she has served since 2010.

Dr. Leykum has been division chief of hospital medicine since 2008. In her new position she will work with the 60 faculty from the combined divisions to support and build on their educational, clinical and research endeavors.

“Her work has spanned all areas of our practice, from negotiating hospital contracts to building ambulatory programs to improving our patients’ experiences,” said Francisco González-Scarano, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine, and Carlos Rosende, M.D., executive vice dean for clinical affairs, in announcing the move. “We are certain that she will bring the same level of energy, diligence, thoughtfulness and style to her work with the Division of General and Hospital Medicine.”

Dr. Leykum came to San Antonio after completing medical school and residency at the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, where she also served on the faculty. She also holds an M.B.A. from Columbia.
