Live ‘Think Science: Let’s talk about addiction’ event coming July 15

Texas Public Radio will partner with The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to serve the community at the next “Think Science” live program. The event — themed “Let’s talk about addiction” — will explore the latest information about addiction to alcohol and drugs, a life-threatening disorder that reportedly affects two-thirds of the country’s adults, either personally or within their families. In June, the City of San Antonio declared drug overdoses a public health crisis.

Nathan Cone of Texas Public Radio will moderate the hourlong event to be held on Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m. in the Pestana Lecture Hall at the UT Health San Antonio Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature experts from UT Health Science Center San Antonio and its Be Well Institute on Substance Use and Related Disorders, an initiative dedicated to advancing addiction research, education and evidence-based treatments. Leading the discussion will be Jennifer Sharpe Potter, PhD, MPH, vice president for research at UT Health Science Center San Antonio and founding director of the Be Well Institute.

The event will also provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions of researchers to learn more about addiction and resources for help.
