Long School of Medicine welcomes new class in annual White Coat Ceremony

On Saturday, July 19, the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine welcomed 235 first-year students into the medical profession during its annual White Coat Ceremony, held at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

Surrounded by family, friends and faculty, the students donned their white coats for the first time, marking an enduring symbol of compassion, trust and professionalism in medicine. The ceremony marked an important milestone as these future physicians begin their journey at UT Health San Antonio.

Faculty members joined Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, Dean, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, and Taylor Eighmy, PhD, president of The University of Texas at San Antonio and acting president of UT Health San Antonio, to offer words of inspiration and encouragement that emphasize the responsibility, empathy and dedication required to serve patients and communities with excellence.

Surrounded by the encouragement of their peers, mentors and loved ones, the class of 2029 is now poised to begin the challenging, yet rewarding journey through a medical education driven by service and inspired by purpose.
