Annual Frank Bryant Lecture is free and open to public April 3

WHAT:           The Frank Bryant Jr., MD, Memorial Lecture in Medical Ethics at UT Health San Antonio. The topic is “Making America Healthier for All: What Each of Us Can Do.”

WHO:              David R. Williams, PhD, MPH, Harvard University, is this year’s speaker. Dr. Williams is an internationally recognized scholar focused on social influences on health. Dr. Williams will describe persistent socioeconomic and racial/ethnic health disparities in the U.S. and propose interventions, both within and beyond the health care system.

Dr. Frank Bryant Jr. is remembered by friends as a man who cared, and showed that he cared. He is remembered as a man who overcame adversity, yet would never accuse anyone else of being unfair. Dr. Bryant graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in one of the first classes to admit black students. He went on to become a respected physician, a loving family man and an advocate for the medically underserved in East San Antonio.

Dr. Bryant was the cofounder and first medical director of the Ella Austin Health Clinic and co-developer of the East San Antonio Medical Center. He served as the first African-American president of the Bexar County Medical Society.
