Ribbon-cutting ceremony marks opening of Texas’ first of its kind center dedicated to neurologic care

WHAT:         A special ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening of the new UT Health San Antonio Center for Brain Health, home to the renowned Glenn Biggs institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Leaders from The University of Texas System, UT Health San Antonio, the academic health center of The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio); as well as donors and distinguished guests will gather at the new Center for Brain Health.

The 103,000-square-foot facility brings together specialty care, therapy, diagnostics, and research under one roof. With a fully-integrated care model, the facility includes 91 rooms for exams, testing, and treatment, along with 12 infusion chairs, and the state’s most powerful 7T MRI scanner. The Center for Brain Health is designed to ease the patient journey, making complex care more connected, collaborative, and accessible for South Texas families.

The Center will provide comfortable spaces for patients and families to gather and recharge, offering quiet lounges and rooms dedicated to meditation, art, and music.

In Texas, 459,000 people aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, and about 1.1 million family caregivers provide essential support to people living with dementia.

Opening December 2025, the Center for Brain Health will connect to the Medical Arts and Research Center (MARC), bringing together comprehensive brain health services, advanced research, and innovative care to patients with Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, movement disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and other neurodegenerative diseases.
