The Military Health Institute, in partnership with the Military Health Interest Group, hosted the 2025 Promotion Ceremony for students in the Health Profession Scholarship Program on May 16. Family, friends and mentors of the medical students from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine celebrated together as the graduates took the oath of office and were pinned with their new rank.
The United States Army, Navy and Air Force offer the scholarship to students serving in the military who attend medical and dental school programs. Students in the Health Profession Scholarship Program receive full tuition coverage as well as reimbursement of health insurance costs and other related school expenses.
“It was my pleasure to promote these future military physicians as they graduate from medical school,” said retired United States Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert I. Miller, MD, director of the Military Health Institute at UT Health San Antonio. “It was also special that the ceremony had representation from each of the services of the military.”
The 2025 HPSP medical school graduates were: Army Captain Shwetha Vidya Prabakar, Navy Lieutenant Aaron Paul Sanchez and Air Force Captain Addison Rae White.
“The Health Profession Scholarship Program is a wonderful opportunity for our students who have a desire to serve our great nation and receive world-class training in their specialties while getting financial assistance for their education,” Miller said. “It’s a unique opportunity that more students should strongly consider, and the Military Health Institute is here to support that.”
