Modernizing technology: investing in UT Health San Antonio’s future

UT Health San Antonio is investing in significant infrastructure and technology upgrades to enhance employees’ experiences and support the institution’s expansion of services including:

  • The new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital.
  • The university’s growing research endeavors.
  • The university’s expanded academic programming.

These needed investments will enhance the experiences of our valued employees and differentiate us as a major employer in the booming health care market with advanced technology and continuously updated operating systems.

Over the next year, these technology upgrades will occur in phases that will impact the Human Capital Management System, the Financial Management System, the Enterprise Research Management System, or ERMS, electronic medical records, or EPIC, and other information technology modernization efforts.

A major aspect of this upgrade will include moving the PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) system to a new HCM Oracle Cloud suite of human resource-related products that will include major functions such as:

  • Payroll.
  • Hiring and onboarding.
  • Talent management.
  • Learning and development.
  • HR support services.
  • Financial Services like supply chain management.

The benefits of the digital enhancements of these HR tools will:

  • Impact the look and feel of the HR tool.
  • Allow greater transparency into HR processes and status of efforts.
  • Provide more access for managers to manage talent.
  • Support a more seamless recruitment process.
  • Increase access to decision support.
  • Provide in-application support and more intuitiveness while using the HR tools.

Throughout the upgrade process, the institution is committed to keeping the campus community informed in a carefully planned sequence.

Regular and frequent updates will be provided to ensure a smooth changeover for everyone including the timing of changes and cutover dates, training sessions, simulations, guided tours and in-person support. New artificial intelligence (AI) tools will also provide help through guided learning, chat support and a new HR Buddy Bot digital assistant.

As the university continues its unprecedented growth, this investment in our mission-critical operating systems and in our people, allows us to scale our services and enables more flexibility to support continued expansion. Modernizing our technology infrastructure is essential to fueling our mission to make lives better by delivering consistently excellent experiences at every point of interaction with greater impact on efficiency, integration, more positive user experiences and better outcomes.
