Newest UT Health San Antonio location opens, ready to serve growing northwest Bexar County

UT Health San Antonio opens newest location UT Health Outpatient and Surgery Center at Kyle Seale Parkway.

Leaders from The University of Texas System, UT Health Physicians — the clinical practice of UT Health San Antonio — and The University of Texas at San Antonio gathered on March 18 to celebrate the opening of the new UT Health Outpatient and Surgery Center at Kyle Seale Parkway (UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway). Representatives from the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, elected officials and community supporters joined them in the celebration.

After a moment of silence in honor of UT Health San Antonio President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, who recently passed away, Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, acting president of UT Health San Antonio, recalled visiting the site three years ago with Henrich and Taylor Eighmy, PhD, president of The University of Texas at San Antonio.  Eighmy recommended the land for the new facility.

“We envisioned a place where cutting-edge care could be given to the community —  and not just cutting-edge care but inventing the next generation of medical devices and medical treatments [that] could be provided right here for the neighborhoods north of us,” Hromas said. “And that’s what we’re doing. We’re opening a facility to provide hope for those with complex medical problems who need multispecialty care.”

The ceremony marked the completion of the five-story, 108,000-square-foot community medical facility located near the southeast corner of Loop 1604 and Kyle Seale Parkway.

“Here at UT Health San Antonio, we are on a mission to make lives better, and we do whatever it takes to do that. We will go anywhere, and we will be anything to anybody who needs us to make lives healthier, make families closer together and make lives better,” Hromas said. “This facility is a testament to our commitment to enhancing access to high-quality health care services while fostering healthy communities.”

UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway will include primary care, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, rehabilitation medicine, physical therapy, pathology, radiology, urology and outpatient surgery. Patients will also have access to the latest in diagnostic laboratory testing and convenient imaging services, including MRI, CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound.

The area along Loop 1604 in northwest Bexar County has experienced tremendous growth since 2000. The new location of UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway was built to meet the current and future health care needs of the area’s rapidly growing northwest side.

“The completion of our newest medical facility represents a significant milestone in providing exceptional health care services,” said Robert Leverence, MD, FACP, vice dean for clinical affairs and executive director of UT Health Physicians. “Our team of dedicated health care providers is excited to welcome patients and build lasting relationships within the community.”

UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway includes an ambulatory surgery center with four state-of-the-art operating suites and 16 spacious pre-op and recovery rooms that open mid-April, staffed by board-certified surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and medical technicians specially trained in surgical and recovery care. The surgical center will provide safe, contemporary suites for surgical procedures that do not require an overnight stay.

The project will have an estimated total economic impact of $42.4 million annually and support approximately 130 jobs. Leverence said the facility has 30,000 additional square feet on the third and fifth floors for further expansion.

The facility began accepting primary and specialty care patients on March 19.
