Office of the President: Be someone’s hero. Contribute to the State Employee Charitable Campaign today!

Dear Friends:

I am so pleased to kick off UT Health San Antonio’s annual State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). Our campaign starts today and runs through Oct. 4. Our goal is to raise $415,000 this year, and I am confident we can accomplish this goal together.

I think SECC is critical because our 20 surrounding counties have significant economic and social challenges and many human care needs. Last year, 3,400 children were confirmed victims of abuse or neglect. One in seven people have trouble buying groceries for basic food needs, 3,155 people in our communities end up homeless at any given time and in 2023, the 2-1-1 Call Center at United Way handled 174,413 calls requesting assistance with food, electricity, rent and much more.

I believe it is through our participation and support of SECC that many of our region’s greatest needs are met. Every day, agencies within the SECC are helping our neighbors in greatest need. We are a very generous community, and I know our participation can be stronger. We have had great success in our campaigns, but now let’s take this opportunity to bring our generosity to the next level.

There are over 500 agencies to choose from, including two agencies that directly benefit UT Health San Antonio. First, the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio Staff Emergency Fund benefits our staff members who are facing a temporary financial hardship. Second, Chromosome 18 Registry & Research Society provides education and research to help individuals with Chromosome 18 abnormalities. No matter where you decide to donate, your contribution to any of the hundreds of SECC charities will make a significant difference in someone’s life.

I welcome you to take a look at our SECC website, a tool created especially for our UT Health San Antonio employees that includes many links to helpful information, including:

Online giving is the easiest and most efficient way to donate. For example, by donating online you can choose to have your contribution automatically deducted from your paycheck. Contributing online also provides you with an easy-to-print form showing your tax-deductible gift for your tax return.

I encourage you to personally get involved and “Be Someone’s Hero.”

Sincerely,
Rob Hromas
