Remarks by Dr. Henrich at the March 6 awards dinner:

“Dr. Bowling is a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine and did his internship and residency here at UT Health. He is an associate professor and serves as hospitalist and faculty physician in the Department of Medicine and sees patients at University Hospital. He is considered to be an excellent, proactive and highly caring internist. He has earned the respect of colleagues and students alike and teaches in a manner that is both support of students yet highly instructive.

Per those who contributed to his nomination, Dr. Bowling is also an excellent leader, collaborator and fosters a positive interprofessional environment where each provider’s skills are elevated. Over the years, several hospital process improvements have been made at University Hospital which are attributed to Dr. Bowling. For example, he improved processes that include how quickly patients are admitted, how providers communicate with patients during their hospitalization and how appointments are made after the patients have been discharged.”

From the nominating letter by Luci K. Leykum, M.D., M.B.A., M.Sc., FACP, SFHM, professor and chief, General & Hospital Medicine – Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine

“Dr. Bowling is an outstanding internist with excellent clinical judgement. On rounds, he closely watches what is happening with new residents to prevent any issues from going unrecognized, though he does it in a manner that is extremely supportive of them, respecting their need to learn and develop autonomy. His ability to balance exceptional patient care with a positive learning climate for the residents is remarkable. Gregory exemplifies what it means to be aservant-leader. He leads by supporting and enabling the work of his colleagues and by serving as a clear role model for ‘putting the patient first.’ He actively solicits input and suggestions for tackling difficult issues, finding solutions that meet many stakeholders’ needs. Gregory brings an authentic spirit of collaboration, compassion and humility to his work.”
