Remarks by Dr. Henrich at the March 22 awards dinner:

“As Chief of Psychology in the STRONG STAR Consortium operating at Fort Hood, Dr. Katy Dondanville oversees more than 15 projects and 2,000 service members. She has spearheaded efforts that are improving the lives of active-duty soldiers and veterans with the excellent potential of significant advances in post-traumatic stress disorder detection, prevention and the delivery of treatments that are relevant, effective and feasible for the military. As more military personnel from Fort Hood have been deployed, injured and killed in action from any other single U.S. military installation, her work is vital. Her outstanding skills as a therapist are complemented by her dedication and compassion. Her impact on the care and treatment of our service members is unparalleled.”

From the nominating letter by a grateful patient:

“After serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, my daughters were murdered by my husband who then killed himself. Five months later, I met Dr. Dondanville, who helped me tremendously to overcome fears and understand symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. She introduced me to cognitive processing theory, which helped me take my life back. Thanks to her unconditional attention and care, she helped me believe I can trust again and that I have a future with my new husband and newborn son.”
