PT hosts Physical Therapy Olympics, Job Fair

PT students entertain at the annual Physical Therapy Olympics.

UT Health’s Department of Physical Therapy again hosted its Physical Therapy Olympics (PTO) and Spring Job Fair for PT students from across Texas.

More than 650 students from 12 schools descended upon the UT Health San Antonio recreational facilities and Gold’s Gym March 23-25 to compete in a variety of events. Events started on March 23 with the PT Dance Competition followed by a new event, Ultimate Frisbee, won by UT Health San Antonio DPT students. The return of PT Idol during the Billiards Competition was a time for students to socialize.

Approximately 40 vendors participated in the Job Fair on March 24, presenting information to students about job openings as well as residency and fellowship opportunities. The DPT band of Jake Wentworth, Logan Curtis and Ray Hernando provided entertainment at the Saturday Barbecue Social.

“Our DPT students work for a year to organize this event, and the implementation is not easy, but once again, we had a relatively injury-free event. We could not do this without our students,” said Catherine Ortega, Ed.D, PT, ATC, supervising faculty member.

Michael Geelhoed, D.P.T., PT, added, “We do not charge our students to attend, and are always glad to have any proceeds go to the Physical Therapy Alumni Association Scholarship fund for student education assistance.”

“The partnership with Gold’s Gym makes for a successful event each year,” said Greg Ernst, Ph.D., PT,  chair of the department.
