WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1

WHERE: The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
Morning sessions – Health Professions Fair:
Greehey Academic and Research Campus, 8403 Floyd Curl Drive

Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive

WHO: The event is open to high school and college students, their parents and teachers. Faculty members from departments in the School of Health Professions will lead the morning sessions. Faculty in the School of Nursing, Dental School, School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences will lead afternoon sessions.

WHY: Demand is growing rapidly for workers in nursing, dentistry, medicine, research and the health professions (the latter term encompasses vocations that include physical therapist, clinical laboratory scientist, dental laboratory technician, physician assistant and other professionals). It is especially important for young people in South Texas to consider careers in these disciplines and to serve their home region after their education and professional training.

NOTES: This educational program is offered free of charge as a service to students. We can arrange an advance interview for you with the Health Science Center’s director of recruitment and science outreach, Irene Chapa, a Ph.D.-trained pharmacologist who is passionate about reaching young people with word of these careers. We can also make available parents and students who attended last year, and can arrange a campus visit for you to shoot a photo of a young student in a lab. We can also assist you with interviews and photos at the event.
