Rosinia to chair Department of Anesthesiology

The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio announces the appointment of Frank Rosinia, M.D., M.H.C.M., as chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, effective June 17. Dr. Rosinia was selected after an extensive national search, said Robert Hromas, M.D., FACP, dean of the Long School of Medicine.

Dr. Rosinia joins the Long School of Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, where he is vice president of strategy and performance and chief quality officer, assisting in the birth of UNT’s new medical school.

Dr. Rosinia was also the chief quality officer at the John Peter Smith Health Network, where he assisted in the establishment of the North Texas Institutional Review Board, improvement of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade from a “D” to a “B”, integration of library services for residents on rounds, initiation of several faculty leadership and physician engagement programs, and the establishment of organizational well-being programs.

Dr. Rosinia graduated from the Tulane University School of Engineering with a degree in biomedical engineering in 1983. He received his medical degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at New Orleans. He did his residency in anesthesiology at the Ochsner Clinic, followed by a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Rosinia completed his Master of Health Care Management degree at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Rosinia was previously chairman of anesthesiology for the Tulane University Medical Center and chief quality officer for that institution. Accomplishments during his tenure as chairman include the first anesthesia program to offer a Master of Business Administration degree during residency training, a citywide IHI Open School Chapter for New Orleans, a residency rotation with Union Hospital in Wuhan, China, the creation of a practice management fellowship and initiating a regional anesthesia fellowship.

Dr. Rosinia also co-founded Parish Management Consults, which became the 10th largest physician-owned anesthesia group in the U.S. In that role, he helped to develop an anesthesia clinical outcome registry that was certified as one of the first Patient Safety Organizations in the U.S. Dr. Rosinia has participated on the boards of the Anesthesia Business Group, the American College of Surgeons’ Surgical Quality Alliance and the Anesthesia Quality Institute. He currently serves as the chairman of the Texas Christian University Neeley School of Business Health Care MBA Advisory Board.
