School of Dentistry recognized as leading academic oral health institution

The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) reaffirmed the accreditation of the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry.

CODA is nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the sole agency to accredit dental and dental-related education programs conducted at the post-secondary level.

In a formal report released in February, the School of Dentistry was awarded the status of fully accredited with no recommendations or reporting requirements through the year 2026.

This classification indicates the allied dental education program in dental hygiene, the predoctoral education program and the advanced dental education programs in general dentistry, dental public health, endodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and prosthodontics, all achieve or exceed the basic requirements for accreditation.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery and the oral and maxillofacial radiology programs follow a different evaluation cycle and will be assessed separately.

“This is the highest possible outcome any dental school can be awarded”, said Peter M. Loomer, B.Sc., D.D.S., Ph.D., MRCD(C), FACD, dean of the School of Dentistry.

“The CODA consultants were extremely impressed with all of our programs. Among the several strengths, they commented on were our research program and our new curriculum with the integration of the Long School of Medicine’s basic science courses. This is a fantastic report and I’m so proud of the work Dr. Adriana Segura and our teams have accomplished,” he added.
