ERMS software suite launched to streamline workflow for university research projects

The Office of the Vice President for Research has introduced the Enterprise Research Management System (ERMS) to create an information portal to improve research workflows and free up time for mission-focused activities.

Launched in May, the first ERMS module centralizes administration, support and monitoring for all research-related agreements handled through the Office of Sponsored Programs — from set-up through contract termination.

The new research management system will ensure that investigators and study teams will always know where their research project is in the project life cycle by using automated workflows rather than manual processes like emailing back and forth.

Reviewing, approving, messaging, monitoring, and archiving documents for research projects will occur within one platform with easy-to-use, system-to-system functionality. This will reduce the administrative burden for research staff and increase transparency for investigators about the status of their research activities.

The next module — expected to launch this fall — will improve conflict of interest administration and will replace the current iDisclose system.
